Neal: Tom was immense

Manager hails striker's dominant performance

Tom Elliott’s all-action display at Wycombe Wanderers received high praise from Neal Ardley after yesterday’s crucial victory.

The towering striker was a constant nuisance to Wycombe’s defence and the manager highlighted his importance to the team afterwards.

Speaking during an interview for Dons Player, Neal Ardley said: “I thought that Tom was immense all game and they couldn’t handle him. Our two centre-backs won everything and at the other end Tom was a perfect foil for Lyle and Rhys. When Tom is like that he can be unplayable. He is just trying to keep that consistency, but to be fair to him he has been. Tom had been doing well when coming off the bench lately.

“We are delighted with the squad and we are pushing hard. Everyone can see that the team is giving absolutely everything and we will continue to do so. We are trying to over-achieve, trying to dream, and keep the season alive. We feel that we are a good team. Even though the form has dipped a little bit, between the boxes we have still been really good and better than the opposition. We had not been getting it right in the boxes and ultimately that is what wins and loses you games. We felt a lot of things were in place. Today we’ve turned it around and we have to go again.”
