Midfielder commits his future to the club
We are delighted to announce that Jake Reeves has been rewarded for his impressive displays since returning to the club with a new contract.
Since signing permanently for AFC Wimbledon in January 2015, Jake has been a regular at the heart of our midfield and his association with the club goes back to 2012 when he had a loan spell here.
Of course, Jake played a key part in AFC Wimbledon’s promotion at Wembley in May and Neal was keen to get the 23-year-old midfielder to commit his future to the club.
“When we signed Jake at the start of last year it was important for him to play games and establish himself after being messed about a bit by Brentford and Swindon,” said Neal. “It was about him establishing himself and improving as a player. It was great for us to give him that platform. That deal is concluding at the end of the season and he is now showing everyone the ability we knew he had back then.
“It was really important for us to extend his contract and at the same time Jake knows if he does really well here and a bigger club comes in, we will do the right thing for him and AFC Wimbledon. We are delighted to have Jake here because of his quality on the ball, the way he can dictate a game, and his energy. With the improvements he has made in the last couple of years I think he is one of the best midfielders in our league.”
Speaking during an interview for Dons Player, Jake expressed his delight after extending his stay here.
“The manager told me he wanted to give me a new contract and I’ve signed it so it’s good news,” said Jake. “I can crack on with my football now. If I did not believe in what we are trying to achieve here I would not have signed. I did not get the rub of the green at other clubs, but since I came here the manager has given me that opportunity to play football. He has shown a lot of faith in me.”
