Interview with first-team coach ahead of Brighton's visit on Tuesday

AFC Wimbledon will tomorrow night be aiming to extend a good record in the Checkatrade Trophy this season with a place in the last-16 up for grabs.

The Dons host Brighton at the Cherry Red Records Stadium (7.45 pm kick-off) after progressing to the knockout phase by topping Southern Group B.

Speaking ahead of the game during an interview for Dons Player, Simon Bassey said: “It is obviously really soon after Sunday, but with the early kick-off we will get 48 hours of recovery into the boys. There will be some that will come out again and there will obviously be youngsters getting game-time, but it’s a competition we have done well in so far. We won our group and we have earned our place in this round so it’s a game we want to win.

“You get weeks like this when you spend most of your time recovering and analysing, rather than training. We will get tomorrow out of the way, hopefully with a positive result, and get recovery into the boys so that we can look forward to the weekend.”

Of course, the squad go into tomorrow’s match on a high after Sunday’s stunning FA Cup turnaround at Curzon Ashton and Simon praised the character shown by the players after coming back from 3-0 down.

“We made life difficult for ourselves, but credit to the boys for showing amazing character and resolve," added Simon. "They kept going, got back into it, and ultimately nicked it right at the death. Your heart goes out to Curzon Ashton because they probably deserved a replay, but we are ecstatic with the victory.”

Entry prices for tomorrow night's game are £10 for adults and £5 for Under-18s.
