Interview with in-form striker after convincing victory
Tom Elliott earned the Man of the Match accolade for another swashbuckling forward display against Port Vale on Saturday, but he felt that Lyle Taylor merited the award!
Speaking during a post-match interview, which can be viewed on our official You Tube channel via the link above, Tom was quick to recognise the contribution of his strike partner, who played a part in two of the goals.
“Lyle was my Man of the Match today,” said Tom. “He does so much for me on the pitch; he works really hard and communicates with me. Off the pitch, we are so close. Lyle was brilliant today. He did very well for our third goal and Tyrone has scored what was my favourite goal on the day. He put it into the top corner with his left foot – we know he’s got that in his locker. You know that Dom is going to get you a goal and he will work hard. Everyone did really well. Obviously, the unsung heroes grafted away in the midfield engine room and the back four have managed to keep a clean sheet. ‘Sheasy’ pulled off a ‘worldy’ save at 2-0 and everyone knows if that had gone in, it could have got a bit shaky. I could not fault anyone today – it was quality.”
During the interview with WDON’s Rob Cornell, Tom added that there must be no let-up from the squad with tough away tests to come at Southend United and Bristol Rovers over Christmas.
“I just have to keep doing the basics,” added Tom. “Keep running as hard as I can, listening to the coaches, and working hard for my team-mates. The fans have been brilliant – they have given me that little boost. I love it when they sing my name. I am going to continue playing with a smile on my face and see where that takes me.
“It has been a great 2016 with our promotion and we still have two games to go to make it an even better year. The two matches we’ve got over Christmas will be hard games. Southend are a big, strong team, and they are good at their place and I remember playing against Bristol Rovers last season, they were really good. We are just going to have to play like we did today, but even better.”
