FA Youth Cup edition celebrates academy achievements
It’s a special match day programme for tonight’s FA Youth Cup tie against Chelsea as we focus on the superb achievements of our Under-18s this season and take a look back at Wimbledon’s history in the competition.
There’s a “How We Got Here” feature with a profile of Wimbledon’s run to the last-16 and we turn the clock back with “40 years in the FA Youth Cup”, including the days when Neal Ardley, Wally Downes and Chris Perry played in the competition.
Interviews with current “Midfield Diamonds” Alfie Egan, Seanan McKillop and Jason Stripp feature in the programme, and we catch-up with Chelsea fan Michael Rootes, who played in the FA Youth Cup for Wimbledon and later turned out for AFC Wimbledon.
To celebrate the achievements of our academy, there’s a page each devoted to every age group from U-9s to U-16s and a “timeline” of AFC Wimbledon academy history from 2002 until 2016.
