Neal aims to bolster squad

Manager seeks January additions

Neal Ardley is seeking reinforcements during the January transfer window, but he said it will be difficult to improve upon the existing squad after last summer’s recruitment.

Speaking during an interview for Dons Player, Neal said: “Last season we went into January and lost a key player in Matt Tubbs. We tried to replace him, but that one never worked out the way we wanted it to. This January we have to make sure that any business we do improves the squad. There is not bundles out there that you would say will improve what we already have. When you work hard in the summer to get the right players in, it’s then harder to improve during the season.

“We’ve not got fortunes to spend and we have to try and get a player in or two who will make a difference and really strengthen the squad. We want that competition so that players have to fight to get into the team. We have had that in the last couple of games. The players that came into the team did really well and there is a better feel about the place.”

The full seven-minute interview with Neal is now on Dons Player and includes a preview ahead of Cambridge. An extensive interview with Lyle Taylor is also on our premium channel.
