Sean stakes his claim

Former St Mirren defender impresses Neal

Neal Ardley said he was pleased with the performance of trialist Sean Kelly at Margate yesterday – and the Scottish defender is likely to be offered another chance to impress.

Sean, who has made almost 100 league appearances in Scotland with St Mirren, showed plenty of versatility after starting the match and Neal said that he had staked his claim to stay here longer.

“Sean was recommended to us and we obviously did our homework on him,” said Neal. “We watched a lot of footage of him playing for St Mirren. I was really pleased with how he played. He is 6ft 2 inches, he can play left-back and fill in at centre-back, so we had a good luck at him. He played for an hour at centre-back and then we moved him to left-back to take a look at him going forward later in the game.

“It is a position we feel we could do with strengthening and Sean is certainly under consideration. We will have a chat with him and we may take him to Wales with us and see a lot more of him.”

Neal Ardley’s full post-match reaction after Margate is now on Dons Player and we also caught up with young pair Alfie Egan and Toyosi Olusanya about stepping up from academy football to the first-team.
