Tough test for rising Dons

21 July 2016

Under-18s at Sutton United on Friday night

AFC Wimbledon Under-18s will test themselves against senior opposition once again tomorrow night when they take on Corinthian Casuals at Sutton United (7.30 pm kick-off).

The young Dons take on the Ryman Division One South club’s first-team, just six days after a stirring fightback against Walton Casuals just came up short with a 3-2 defeat.

Manager Mark Robinson will have to do without key defender Toby Sibbick as he will be featuring for the Under-21s at Tonbridge Angels a day later. Though Judah Chapman is also likely to be missing due to illness, Mark believes he has a strong enough squad to give Casuals a good test on Friday.

The Under-18s prepared for tomorrow’s match with a 2-1 victory against Kinetic Academy on Tuesday afternoon at Tooting & Mitcham.

The Dons had to do it without several players due to our development squad’s match at Raynes Park on the same day. They had to come from behind to edge the verdict with an excellent 25-yard strike from Anthony Hartigan providing the undoubted highlight.

Assistant Manager James Oliver Pearce said: “We had a good chat with the players afterwards and emphasised what is expected from them. We understand that it may not be possible to get everything right, but we want to see evidence that they are taking on board information and maintaining it. It is now important that we reflect constructively and prepare for a tough game against Corinthian Casuals’ first-team on Friday. We have complete faith in them as a group and we know what they are capable of achieving.”
