Supporters can buy new kits this Sunday
With our new Admiral home and away strips due to be launched this Sunday, we thought we would take a look back at AFC Wimbledon’s first kit after reformation in 2002.
The picture above shows Kevin Cooper celebrating one of his many goals, the striker’s superb scoring feats lifting AFC Wimbledon to Combined Counties Premier League title success. That glory in 2004 was AFC Wimbledon’s first promotion and chants of “We won it one time” have been heard at Dons matches ever since!
Cooper, who struck AFC Wimbledon’s first competitive goal at Sandhurst Town, recalled in an interview about how much it meant to him.
“On the coach to Sandhurst it was being drummed into us by supporters and those behind the club that this was the start of a rollercoaster ride for AFC Wimbledon,” said Kevin. “The players were talking about getting the first goal and I will never forget that I scored it and got the man of the match award.”
Of course, AFC Wimbledon have been sponsored by Sports Interactive ever since the club’s rebirth and the club is proud to retain this valued relationship.
Supporters will be able to see the club’s new home and away kits for the first time on Sunday at Centre Court Shopping Centre. The kit launch will be taking place after a huge moment for the club as we look to turn Wimbledon Town Centre yellow and blue to celebrate our play-off heroes, who will be parading the trophy on an open-top bus.
