Ryan: an easy decision

New goalkeeper explains why he chose Wimbledon move

Ryan Clarke said that no other clubs came close to matching the option of joining AFC Wimbledon as he aims to put a “frustrating” season behind him.

After a long spell as Oxford United’s number one, the experienced goalkeeper did not play for Northampton Town last season – and he has turned down interest from other clubs to get his career back on track with the Dons.

Ryan said: “The main motivation was that it was Wimbledon. I made a decision for me that I had to move on from Northampton after a frustrating season. I had a few clubs interested, but it was an easy decision to come here and I could not wait to get it done. I was given the opportunity to go and talk to other clubs, but they did not really come close to the option of joining Wimbledon.

“Straight away when I met Neal Ardley his enthusiasm and the way he spoke made me want to sign. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the manager and I cannot wait to get started with him and the rest of the team.

“It’s a horrible thing to say, but I never lost a game against Wimbledon so I am sorry about that! Whenever I came here it was a great atmosphere with the fans really getting behind the team. The squad has improved a lot since Neal Ardley took over and hopefully it will go on another step. In my previous games here there’s always been a good atmosphere and I’m sure that will continue in the next couple of years as the club continues on its journey.”
