George seeks strong finish

Winger interviewed ahead of Hartlepool test

George Francomb says that Wimbledon must stay “composed” during the run-in and focus on getting enough wins to ensure a place in the end of season play-offs.

With so many teams battling for a spot in the top-seven, it would be easy to get distracted by other results, but Francomb believes the Dons must focus on negotiating tough games like Hartlepool United away tomorrow.

Speaking during an interview for Dons Player, Francomb said: “There have been spells when it has not quite gone for us, but we have to keep our heads and stay composed during the run-in. I think that six wins out of nine will do it and that’s what we’re striving for. You always check after the game to see where we are in the table, but we have to focus on doing our jobs as other teams are going to drop points.

“It’s going to be a tough one (against Hartlepool). Every game has its different aspects, but we are going up there to try and take three points. We had a spell of playing on Saturdays and Tuesdays for about four weeks and that was tough, but after the weekend the fixture list is not too piled up. We want to pick-up points over the weekend and then stay focused for the run-in.”

Francomb has so far this season made 35 appearances in all competitions and scored three goals to help the Dons to ninth place in League 2. However, the 24-year-old winger believes he’s edging towards his best after a dip in form, partly due to injuries.

“It’s been a little bit in and out for me this season,” said Francomb during the interview with WDON's Rob Cornell. “I started the season quite well, but then I had a dip in form towards Christmas. We had a great run after the turn of the year and everyone was playing well, but I suffered a couple of injuries. In the last couple of games I’ve felt stronger and fitter though. Hopefully, we can hit good form as a team and get into the play-offs.”
