Manager on signing Rhys Murphy
Neal Ardley strengthened his squad for the run-in with the acquisition of Rhys Murphy - and he is hoping to bring in one more player next week.
As we revealed earlier, Neal had long tracked the 25-year-old striker’s progress and his arrival could have been a lot sooner.
Speaking during an interview for Dons Player, Neal Ardley said: “When we had a look at players in that position during the January transfer window Rhys was somebody we looked at. But sometimes it is about timing and the availability of the player. He was at Crawley earlier in the season and scored nine goals in 15 games, which is not easy, so that shows his pedigree.
“He went back to Oldham after John Sheridan took over because he wanted to assess him so it was not possible then. The timing is right now and we are delighted to have him. He is going to bring lots of competition for places into the team. It causes us problems because we will have five strikers, but it’s a nice problem to have. His scoring record is phenomenal. He will train with us today and we will go through a lot of stuff with him ready for tomorrow’s game.”
Neal added that he’s hopeful another signing will be made next week.
“We are looking to add one more next week if we can,” Neal revealed. “He plays in a different position, but we are in another club’s hands on that one a little bit. Fingers-crossed that one will get done as well. That should take us into the last 10 games – hopefully 13 games – looking strong.”
Updates from Neal Ardley ahead of Morecambe and an exclusive interview with Rhys Murphy are now on Dons Player.
