Press interest in the Dons story ahead of Wembley

Wimbledon returning to Wembley and our club’s remarkable rise were among the subjects discussed at a very well attended press day held at the training ground.

Around 40 journalists, including Sky Sports, ITV and BBC, were at New Malden to talk to Neal Ardley, Simon Bassey, Ivor Heller and Erik Samuelson, plus first-team players.

Unsurprisingly, Bayo Akinfenwa was in demand and “The Beast” talked passionately about his love for AFC Wimbledon and just what it meant to help the Dons to Wembley.

Speaking about his vital goal at Accrington, Bayo said: “In terms of the feeling it provided me with, this was the best ever, better than Liverpool. It was great to see the elation on the faces of our fans. Everybody should know how I feel about this club. I said from day one that we would be a great fit. It was surreal to see our fans celebrating at the end at Accrington. It’s still surreal now because I regularly get tagged into pictures and videos from that night.”
