Club event at Winter Wonderland is a big hit
Neal Ardley was a Premier League player on the pitch and our manager showed his quality in a different kind of challenge on Sunday.
Staged inside Centre Court Shopping Centre at Winter Wonderland in Wimbledon town centre on Sunday, the club’s Foot Pool tournament – a combination of football and traditional pool – attracted almost 100 players.
But there was no stopping Neal as he remained unbeaten in three matches, despite an admirable challenge from Suzy Wood, Centre Court Director at Centre Court.
AFC Wimbledon Commercial Director Ivor Heller said: “It was great for us to be back supporting Winter Wonderland. Community events in the heart of Wimbledon are exactly what we as a club should be involved in. The reaction from the general public was incredible. The number of positive enquiries about the club and, in particular, our return to the area was very encouraging.
“I would like to thank Centre Court, in particular Suzy Wood, for supporting us once again at AFC Wimbledon. The highlight of the day was Suzy playing Foot Pool with Neal. Neal is the ultimate competitor and he just would not let Suzy win! As for Barry Fuller, well he definitely let up on everyone and did not win a single game! The Mayor and Haydon the Womble also had a go. Overall, it was a great day and we look forward to being back next year.”
Foot Pool is an entertaining game for all ages and the club held three competitions on Sunday.
Lorenzo Dudziec-Mabasi triumphed in the Under-12s category with Luca Ryan winning the Under-16s equivalent and Suzy Wood clinching the 16 years-plus competition.
The club wishes to thank our partners Centre Court Shopping Centre for allowing us to stage the event and for all their support over the years.
