Interview with striker after he comes through tough time

George Oakley said his first-team return on Tuesday had made all the hard work worth it after he put a tough year fully behind him.

The striker, who turns 21 later this month, suffered a broken leg in January, but he has been banging in the goals for the development team and earned his reward with a first-team substitute appearance at Newport.

During the interview, which can be viewed via the link above, Oakley said: “It feels good to be back. Being on the bench for the first-team and getting minutes is what I’ve been aiming for since I broke my leg in January. I’ve come a long way since that point. I’ve pushed hard to get back and hopefully this is the start of many this season.

“It is just about getting more minutes under my belt, whether that’s for the development team or hopefully for the first-team. If it means going out on loan to prove myself by saying to the manager, ‘I am ready’ then that’s what I need to be looking at.”
