Dom dismisses past record

Dons forward interviewed ahead of Oxford

In-form striker Dominic Poleon is looking forward to his first match at Oxford United – and he believes that Wimbledon’s past record against Sunday’s opponents will count for little.

AFC Wimbledon have yet to beat Oxford United in a run that stretches back to the days when both clubs were vying to get out of the Conference.

However, taking on the U’s is a new experience for Dominic, who has been banging in the goals for Wimbledon during a run of just one defeat in 10 games for his new club.

Speaking during an interview for Dons Player, Dominic said: “I think it (record) is more of a fans thing. As a player you want to win every game. When stats like that build up it’s in the back of your mind, but once you cross the line you want to get the job done.

“The manager has briefed us about them. I’ve seen them a few times and they are a good team, but I think it’s more about what we do. We have to take the game to them and cause them problems. Getting wins help us and we’ve set ourselves a benchmark recently. We need to kick-on and hopefully continue this. We are doing all the right things in training and we need to keep doing what we have been doing.”

Dominic has scored four goals in his last six league games to reignite a career that had turned sour at Oldham and he puts his fine form down to several factors.

“I think I get a lot of good service and I try to anticipate things more in my game,” said Dominic. “With different management, it is a different coaching style, and they want you to do different things. Here, it is all about work-rate, rather than being a typical lazy striker! It’s a combination of things really, but whatever it is I am just going to try and keep doing it because it seems to be working!

“When the staff and the boys are together, it is easy for me and the other players. It does not feel like I am new here anymore, but it makes it easy to settle down and focus on what happens on the pitch.”
