Dons striker earns vote from supporters
Dominic Poleon is the Sky Bet League One Goal of the Month winner for September, receiving 41 per cent of the public vote.
A stunning effort from the Wimbledon striker in the 2-1 win at Charlton Athletic included not one but two nutmegs on its way to the back of the net.
His slaloming run left Chris Solly for dead, before he slotted it through the advancing Declan Rudd’s legs.
Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports Pundit Don Goodman said: “‘A man who is undergoing a rebuilding job with his career, which didn’t take off at Leeds United the way many of us thought it would, but goals like this will help propel him into the limelight!
“A goal that has everything in terms of dribbling at pace with quick enough feet to bamboozle not one but two defenders, then the acceleration to get to the ball before an onrushing goalkeeper, and the calmness to poke the ball into the net under the diving keeper. Top goal.’’
Dominic said: "I remember Dannie Bulman giving the ball to me and I just thought I would try and get at them. I saw there was two of them and I managed to do a bit of happy feet to get through the middle, before toe poking it underneath the keeper. We happened to win as well so that was good.
“As a striker you want to try and score goals, but more importantly I'm happy that we got the result. I scored a screamer last season against Sheffield United, but this is up there and maybe my second best goal."
Dominic beat off competition from Peterborough’s Marcus Maddison and Bristol Rover’s Matty Taylor.
