Fine league win for development squad

AFC Wimbledon’s youngsters marched to an impressive victory at Peterborough United today in the Central League South East.

Toyosi Olsuanya (pictured) was on target in his first start after injury, before goals from Alfie Egan and George Oakley, earned a 3-0 win in a match played at Peterborough’s Mick George Academy training complex.

Chris Robertson came through 90 minutes unscathed in his first match for AFC Wimbledon since joining earlier this month.

Peterborough’s line-up included five players who were all in their first-team squad at Sheffield United on Saturday with Deon Moore, Ryan Tafazolli, Hayden White, Nathan Oduwa and Callum Chettle involved.

“It was a decent performance from us,” said Alan Reeves. “They started the game quite lively and had a few good chances, but we grew into the game. You are always a bit apprehensive when you look at the team sheet before kick-off and see experienced players included.

“We’ve played against experienced sides before and come through. I told the boys beforehand that if they started well, worked their socks off, and got in their faces, some of their opponents would not want to be there. That’s what we did and it was a good performance.”

Oakley made no mistake for number three in the second-half when he latched onto a smart ball from Fitzpatrick, before rounding the keeper to tap into an empty net.
