Interview with full-back before Gillingham

Jon Meades is eager to chip in with more goals after his first of the season at Coventry on Wednesday, but he said that his celebrations need a lot more work!

The full-back told WDON’s Rob Cornell that his team-mates have been giving him a hard time after his rather enthusiastic goal celebration at the Ricoh Arena, but he’s hoping it will be a sight they will witness more regularly this season.

Speaking during an interview for Dons Player ahead of the match against Gillingham tomorrow, Jon said: “It was a little bit of a work in progress for the celebration! The boys have been taking the mickey out of me a bit, but I keep saying that it does not happen often so I have to make the most out of it!

“I got three goals last season and I want to double that and get six goals. With the second goal on Wednesday, it was a good header from me and that could have gone in. I think I can be a threat at set-pieces and I want to try and get a few more goals this season.”

During the extensive interview for Dons Player, Jon also spoke of his delight after hearing that the club’s bid for a new stadium is well and truly on course. A clip of that interview is available via the link above on our official You Tube channel.

Jon knows former Dons loanee Deji Oshilaja well from their Cardiff City days together, but he says that Gillingham have good players in all areas.

“I know Deji from my time at Cardiff and he is a good player,” added Jon. “By all accounts he had a very good spell here and he is doing well at Gillingham. They have good players all over the pitch and it’s going to be tough, but we want to do a job on them. We are quite high on confidence at the moment. Obviously, it was disappointing to concede so late on Wednesday, but hopefully we can put that right and get three points tomorrow.”

The full eight-minute interview with Jon Meades is on Dons Player, along with an extensive update from Neil Cox.
