Alfie hails academy set-up

Interview with Alfie Egan after Bristol Rovers defeat

Alfie Egan was full of praise for the coaching he’s received during his rise to the first-team and he reckons that more young players will follow in his footsteps in years to come.

On a proud day for our academy, youth products Alfie and Will Nightingale lined-up against a Rovers side that included Ryan Sweeney at centre-back. Toby Sibbick and Jayden Antwi were also on the bench for the Dons yesterday.

Speaking during an interview with WDON’s Rob Cornell for Dons Player, Alfie saluted the youth system that has helped him flourish.

“It is credit to ‘Robbo’, James (Oliver-Pearce) and Jeremy Sauer because the set-up is really good. I promise you that more players will be coming through, it’s really good news. Ryan Sweeney was class today. He has got that experience now: he is strong, aggressive, and won his headers. Everyone has integrated me into the first-team group really well. I am enjoying my time here, there are four games left this season, and hopefully I can get more game-time.”

The full interview with Alfie is available to Dons Player subscribers via the link above. From 12 noon, extended highlights of the match against Bristol Rovers will be on our premium channel.
