Special cup reunion for Bayzo against Brentford

Goalkeeper Coach on facing his old club

7 August 2017

Our goalkeeper coach Ashley Bayes is relishing a reunion with Dean Smith and his old club Brentford on Tuesday night, but he's desperate for the Dons to make progress in the Carabao Cup.

Bayzo, who made his debut as a 17-year-old for the Bees, also played in the same team as Dean during their time at Leyton Orient.

Speaking during an interview with Rob Cornell for our official You Tube channel, Bayzo said: "I made my league debut at the age of 17 for Brentford. We had a good youth team there and I did my YTS, as they used to call it then. It was a good grounding as I moved away from home into digs. I grew up quickly at a really young age and I really enjoyed my time there. I have a soft spot in my heart for Brentford because I started my professional career there. My old friend is Dean Smith, who I used to room with at Leyton Orient. He was my captain there and it will be nice to catch-up with him and have a good chat.

"From a professional point of view, we are looking to get a result – now I am at Wimbledon. We want to do well in the cup. The league is the priority, but we want to go as far as we can. It's our first home game and we are looking forward to it. We had a good session with the boys this morning and the boys are in good spirits. We are aiming to take that into the cup game."

Tickets are still available for tomorrow night's match. Visit our online ticket shop to order in advance.
