Neil hopeful that Liam Trotter will return

Team news for Saturday's match at Fleetwood

17 August 2017

Liam Trotter returned to full training today and Neil Cox said that a check will be made on the midfielder's fitness, ahead of the trip to Fleetwood Town.

Trotter (pictured) has been missing with a knee injury since the creditable opening day draw at Scunthorpe, a match in which he formed a solid midfield partnership with Jimmy Abdou.

Speaking during an interview for our new iFollow channel, Neil said: "Liam has trained today for the first time. He may come into the squad and hopefully he will travel, but we will check on him tomorrow morning and we will know more then."

Neil reported that it had been encouraging week on the training field since the home defeat against Shrewsbury with the coaching team having worked hard on attacking situations.

"It has been excellent this week," said Neil. "The boys have taken everything on board and we've done a little bit on defensive work, as well as on attacking. We need to score some goals, we know that, but we have to get players into positions to do that. Our quality in the final third has to be better, which we have worked on all week.

"It is just about having a little bit of belief in the final third really. We are going to believe that we will get that cross in and players have to make runs. Sometimes players do not believe that the cross will come in and they say, 'I will not make that run'. They can be a little stand-offish, instead of attacking the balls in the box, we are waiting for crosses. We have told the players to be positive. From every chance we get, can we be brave and create goalscoring opportunities? If we don't, we have to get back, work hard to win the ball, and do the same again."

The full interview with Neil is now on iFollow and a more extensive preview of the Fleetwood game will be featured tomorrow on the official website.
