Fitness boost for Charlton

Parrett and Nightingale return to Dons training

Neil Cox today confirmed that Dean Parrett is back in full training and his fitness will be assessed tomorrow, ahead of the big South London derby against Charlton.

Our assistant manager also updated us with good news regarding Will Nightingale with the young defender having today returned to training after shaking off a knee injury.

“Dean has had a bit of a sore ankle,” said Neil in an interview to Dons Player. “He’s had a problem with striking the ball. He’s done a little bit today, but we’ll have to see how he recovers tomorrow really in terms of the situation of him being available for the squad. We’re just happy to see him train, that’s the main thing.”

Nightingale has returned to training earlier than anticipated and Neil is hopeful of the centre-back stepping up his recovery for Alan Reeves’ development squad next week.

“Will started back training with us this morning. Hopefully he’ll have two or three more sessions and then he’ll get a game under his belt and we’ll see how he is from there. Hopefully he’ll get a game next week for the under-21s which is a massive boost for everybody.”

Neil was also delighted with the response of the squad when they returned to training after last Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at leaders Sheffield United.

“The squad are doing really well after a disappointing result against Sheffield United. They’ve come in bubbly and ready to work and been joined by a couple of players, so we’ve had a couple of good training sessions.”

“We got beaten and we didn’t play well. We’re going for the double against Charlton and that’s the positive side we’re looking for – to win this game and try and get three points.”
