Meades steps up recovery

20 February 2017

Full-back closes in on return

Jon Meades today stepped up his recuperation by returning to full training, but Neal Ardley said that his return will have to be managed carefully.

The left-back has not featured in the squad since Bristol Rovers away on the final day of 2016 with an ankle injury keeping him out, but he is now making good progress.

Speaking during an interview for Dons Player, Neal Ardley said: “Jon was back in training today and he could come into contention for Saturday, but we are probably going to have to treat him a little bit with kid gloves. I don’t think he is going to be able to manage Saturday, Tuesday. If he is available for Saturday and he plays, then he might not on Tuesday. He probably needs a little bit more recovery time, given the injury he has had.”

However, Neal added that winger Chris Whelpdale had yet to make a return to full training.

“Chris is working hard on his fitness, but he is still not quite ready,” said Neal. “We will be guided by the physio on that one.”

A full interview with Neal Ardley, including team news, and a preview for Gillingham tomorrow night, is now on Dons Player.
