Cup build-up at Blackburn

31 January 2017

Just one day to go until FA Youth Cup last-16 tie

AFC Wimbledon Under-18s have today had excellent preparation for tomorrow night’s big FA Youth Cup tie by training at Blackburn.

The Championship club allowed our youngsters to utilise their state-of-the-art training facilities in Lancashire ahead of tomorrow night’s last-16 tie at Preston North End.

It was an early start for the young Dons, who departed on the coach from the Cherry Red Records Stadium at 6.30 am this morning.

We caught up with Mark Robinson before the squad left and the interview with our Under-18s manager can be viewed via the link above.

Though fully aware of the tough test that awaits against a side who beat Everton in the last round, Mark says there is plenty of belief in his squad.

“The players have grown in confidence as the season has gone on,” said Mark. “They are buying into what we do and really believing in it. Every season we start a little bit slowly, but that’s because we rotate the team all the time and it is never the same 11. It is a natural progression.

“It’s about that education of the boys understanding their roles and responsibilities, but at the same time giving them the freedom on the ball. It always takes a bit of time, but they are certainly feeling confident at the moment.”

The Academy today thanked Blackburn Rovers for allowing them to prepare for the game at their training base.

page .TwitterWDON commentator Rob Cornell has travelled with the squad and has been updating us on preparations via our official

We are planning to do live WDON commentary for free from Deepdale and we will provide more details about this tomorrow.
