First interview with player signed on deadline day

Tom Soares said it was the right time to move on after five years with Bury and he believes that AFC Wimbledon is a club that matches his ambitions.

In his first interview for Dons Player after joining Wimbledon, the Reading-born midfielder said that he had other options, but moving here was his number one choice.

“There were a few other clubs interested, but this was best suited to me and I am pleased to be here,” said Tom. “I am an ambitious person and I want to do good things with the club. You are never too old to push on and do the best that you can. It is a very ambitious club with a new stadium on the way. The manager and his coaching staff played a massive part in me joining. I know ‘Bass’ through Chris Hussey, who I played with a few years ago, and Chris used to play here. I also lived on the same estate as ‘Coxy’ when I was at Stoke. We had a few golf games together and he used to give me a few lessons!

“It was time for me to move on. The manager here got in touch with my agent and as soon as I heard Wimbledon were interested I was more than willing to come down. I am really looking forward to Sheffield United away. It should be a really good game and I cannot wait to get going really.”

On the type of player Wimbledon supporters can expect to see in blue and yellow, Tom added: “I would like to think I am a box to box midfielder. I like to get stuck in and to be in the thick of the action.”
