IFollow: Ambitious Liam eager to help the Dons progress

Extensive interview with new signing

22 July 2017

Liam Trotter immediately set his sights on playing a part in AFC Wimbledon's progression after signing for the Dons.

At the age of 28 and with three promotions achieved so far in his career, the ambition shown by manager Neal Ardley impressed Liam enough to turn down other clubs after weighing up several options.

During an in-depth interview on our iFollow channel, Liam said: "I am very ambitious and I will be honest in saying that I don't want to be in League One. I want to be in the Championship minimum and I've come here to help the club push forward. It's definitely realistic to get into the play-offs and be pushing to get promotion. Those are my ambitions and the manager knows that. I think you always have to look to aim high. I am hoping I've come to a club that can help me reach my goals and I hope to help the team achieve their goals too. The manager sold it to me after talking about the aims of the club. After weighing up my options, I felt that Wimbledon was the best move at this stage of my career.

"Last season the team was very comfortable at this level after only coming up the season before. I played here at the beginning of the season and it was a very tough game. I did not play in the game at Bolton, but I watched it and Wimbledon were the better team on the day and deserved more than a draw. I was impressed because the team played two different styles. At Bolton, it was a passing style, but earlier in the season it was very direct and more physical. Both styles were effective."

Liam also spoke about his admiration for AFC Wimbledon's rise and recalled famous Dons names from the past.

"I am quite a big football fan and I've always followed the game," said Liam. "I remember the original Wimbledon team with players like Jason Euell and Vinnie Jones. I always remember the Crazy Gang. Over the years I've watched a small club built by the fans rise and have a lot of promotions. To do that in such a short amount of time is incredible."
