Manager's update after return from Celtic Manor

20 July 2017

Neal Ardley said that new signing Jimmy Abdou will play for the first time in a Dons shirt tomorrow night (7.45 pm kick-off).

Wimbledon host Burton Albion with midfielder Jimmy, signed on loan from Millwall, set to get minutes under his belt.

The match will come after Wimbledon's squad returned from the Celtic Manor Golf Resort, the South Wales location utilised for an intensive few days of training, plus team bonding.

"It was very good," said Neal. "On Monday after we arrived we had a big team meeting. We talked about psychology, team spirit, and what goes into making a high performing team, rather than a dysfunctional one. There was a lot of interaction with the players and they are very much aware of how we want to go about the season. On the Tuesday, we had a double session with technical stuff in the morning and fitness work in the afternoon. The players worked really hard.

"Wednesday was a spa and golf day and today we did a good session in the morning. The boys spent a lot of time together and it was everything you would want from a pre-season training camp. It helped the players to get to know each other better as we prepare for the new season."

Our manager added that striker Kwesi Appiah and midfielders Alfie Egan and Tom Soares will not be risked for the game against Nigel Clough's Championship side.

"Jimmy will definitely get minutes," confirmed Neal. "Most of the players who start will get 60 or 70 minutes and some may get 90 minutes. Tom has had a thigh injury and we don't want to rush him back. Alfie felt his groin on Monday so he has not trained while we have been on tour. He will probably miss out and we will try to get him back next week. Kwesi has a stiff hamstring, it's just precautionary, and we may be able to get him right for the Wycombe game."

Jon Meades is also not yet ready for a return with Darius Charles expected to be out until September.

We will tomorrow night be launching a new lager named after a pivotal year in Wimbledon football history. The beer is brewed by Wimbledon Brewery at its site in SW19.

We will be selling the bottled lager in the middle bar with supporters able to try it there and then. There will also be 'off sales' with bottles of six or 24 available in the middle bar for fans to take away with them. This will be in the middle bar for about 20 minutes after the final whistle.

The following prices will apply:

6 at £2.50 per bottle

24 for £54 (£2.25 a bottle)

The Presidents Lounge and Middle Bar only will be open on Friday, both from 5.00 pm.

For more information about the new lager, read our announcement  on the official website.
