Neal Ardley has expressed his delight with the summer recruits made so far and our manager said he is edging closer to landing another number one choice.
Speaking during an interview for iFollow after Cody McDonald followed Deji Oshilaja and Kwesi Appiah through the door, Neal said: “We are in a really good place. The three additions we’ve made so far are all our first-choice for the positions. That is a bit of a rarity for us as we don’t always get the ones that we wanted right from the start. We are very close to another one who was first-choice as well, we still have a little bit more to do there, but we are very hopeful with that as well. After that, there is going to be bits and bobs with maybe some movement one way before there is more movement the other way. We are very relaxed about it because the quality that we have signed so far we are delighted with.”
In addition to the qualities that Cody McDonald offers as a striker, Neal believes that his personality will bring extra to the squad for next season.
“I met Cody a couple of times before trying to sign him this time and he is a great character, which is something we really wanted to bring into the squad. He gets on with a lot of the boys from previous clubs and I think he is going to help the team spirit as well. We are delighted, it is not one that has just come about all of a sudden. I’ve chased him for a few years now and he is going to bring a lot to the team I hope.
“The main thing is that he wants to score goals and get into the box – that is the number one priority for a striker – but he has enough nous about him now to understand his movement; when to come short and when to go long. We are getting a ready-made package in that respect.”
