Interview with defender ahead of Port Vale game on Saturday

Darius Charles is proud to have played a part in the club’s success since joining just over a year ago, but he is determined to keep pushing AFC Wimbledon forward.

During his interview for Dons Player, Darius spoke with great enthusiasm about his time here so far and a clip of it can be accessed on our official You Tube channel via the link above.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s match against Port Vale, Darius said: “It has been brilliant for me and I couldn’t really have asked for a better year of football, especially as the year before that I spent injured. To go from that situation to winning promotion, winning big games in League One, and hearing the news about Plough Lane, it’s been a fantastic year. I think it is very exciting to be a part of AFC Wimbledon at this time.

“No matter where I am, my aim is always to add to the team and add to the squad itself. I feel that we are heading towards writing that little bit of history for the club. Whenever the time comes and we part ways, it would be nice to be looking back and saying, ‘I helped the club get there or I was part of the team who helped the club do that’.

"I was not pleased with how I started the season, I don’t think anyone could have been. We had a slow start and I got an injury which kept me out for six weeks. Since then, I’ve come back and started heading in the right direction, to be more like the Darius of old who first joined the club. It is just pleasing now to be heading in the right direction. Hopefully, I can finish the season strongly and look to start strongly next season.”

The Dons tomorrow take on a Port Vale side battling to stay in League One and Darius says that Neal Ardley’s men must match the intensity of their opponents.

“It is going to be a tough game because they are fighting for their lives,” added Darius. “At this stage, any team fighting to stay up is going to be as tough a test as they have been all season. We have to go into the game knowing that we have to really raise our game and play at a high intensity that they cannot deal with.”
