Interview with towering striker ahead of Southend

Tom Elliott believes that the Dons can take confidence from recent performances against League One promotion-chasers with Southend United up next tomorrow.

Neal Ardley’s men have taken points off Scunthorpe United, Bolton Wanderers and Fleetwood Town during the last month.

Those results were in stark contrast to the away display at Roots Hall when Phil Brown’s men earned a Boxing Day victory.

Speaking during an interview with WDON’s Rob Cornell for Dons Player, Tom said: “It was not the best of days as we went down to 10 men and ended up getting beaten 3-0. We know that Southend are a big, strong team and they are going to have the long throws and set-pieces. We will just have to deal with that and impose our game on them. We are on our home pitch so we are going to be taking our game to them. We want to start quickly and hopefully get the three points.

“We should not be scared of where they are in the table. People thought before the games against Scunthorpe and Bolton that it was going to be a hard week for us, but we came out of it with four points. Anything can happen and we are not scared of any opposition in this league. We just need to impose our game on the other teams and see what happens.”

Tom has surpassed his goals target for 2016/17 during an impressive second season at AFC Wimbledon and he is determined to help the club finish this season strongly.

“My target for the season was to hit double figures and I’ve got 13 now,” added Tom. “Every goal now is a bonus for me, even though I want to keep scoring and scoring. I am just focused on giving good performances and then the goals will come. I just want to help the team get as high up the table as possible. I think we will do well in the last eight games. As a squad and as a team, we know we can win all eight games. We are just going to go out there and try to win each one. We are never going to go into each a game just aiming for a draw.”
