Marie v Ivor penalty clash

17 March 2017

Sponsor Marie as part of fundraiser for Paul Strank Charitable Trust

AFC Wimbledon supporter Marie Miller picked up tips from our goalkeeper coach ‘Bayzo’ as she gears up for her big penalty challenge at the Rochdale game.

Marie, who attends the High Path Community Resource Centre in South Wimbledon, will be aiming to stop our very own penalty dynamo Ivor Heller in a spot-kick challenge at half-time during that game.

The event aims to raise money for the Paul Strank Charitable Trust - a local charity formed by our own wonderful sponsor Paul Strank - which supports many worthy causes for disadvantaged children and families in Merton.

AFC Wimbledon Commercial Director Ivor Heller said: “This is a great charity initiative with funds raised going to the Paul Strank Charitable Trust, which, among other projects, supplies money to get our fans from High Path to games. It’s Marie’s turn to do the event and she is going to try and save a penalty from a very formidable player!”

In preparation for the big day, Marie joined our first-team squad at the training ground for a practice session with ‘Bazyo’ passing on his expert advice!

High Path is a community centre in South Wimbledon providing day services for adults with learning disabilities. For a number of years, members of High Path have attended AFC Wimbledon matches and took part in unique half-time challenges. Wayne Lecky – or ‘Mini Beast’ - beat Ivor in last season’s penalty equivalent challenge.

In 2012, Marie completed a one-lap challenge of our pitch with Seb Brown to raise money for charity.
