AFC Wimbledon Ladies face the ultimate test tomorrow as they conclude the 2016/17 season with a home match against Champions Gillingham.

It’s been an encouraging season for the Dons Ladies in their first campaign in FA Women’s Premier League South East Division One after promotion.

And they could secure third place in the final table with a positive outcome against Gills (2.00 pm kick-off at Sutton United).

Entry to the match on Sunday is FREE of charge with Dons fans welcome to come along and cheer on the ladies.

Manager Chris Lyons said that his squad are looking forward to the challenge of aiming to end Gillingham’s unbeaten record.

“First of all, on behalf of everyone at AFC Wimbledon, we would like to pass on our congratulations to Gillingham for a fantastic season. However, we will not be rolling over. Teams coming to us know they have to be on it to get anything, and this game will be no different. When we went to their place back in October, the game was relatively well matched and finished 1-1. Depending on results, a third place finish is up for grabs this weekend. We also have the added incentive that they haven’t lost a game yet so there will be bragging rights for someone at the final whistle.

“I think we’ve done incredibly well this season. We’ve had major injuries to contend with and lost players to moving overseas or retirement. To be where we are in our first season is very good. We’ve added more quality to an already strong squad, and next season we’ll be looking to push on again. With only one team going up, this is a very competitive league, but we’ve proved we can mix it at this level. We can finish on Sunday full of confidence and enter next season with plenty of belief.”
