Alfie goes out on loan from Wimbledon

Young midfielder joins National League side

Alfie Egan has this afternoon joined National League side Sutton United on loan from Wimbledon until January 27, 2018.

“Alfie is at the stage of his development where he needs to have regular first team action,” said manager Neal Ardley.

“An opportunity to play at a very good level has presented itself and we hope Alfie can really flourish during this spell.”

Alfie played an important role in the Academy’s FA Youth Cup run nearly two years ago. He scored for the young Dons in the victory at Watford and most memorably at St James’ Park, as the youth team knocked out Newcastle United. The talented youngster then earned his first professional deal with the club.

The 20 year-old made his League One debut for AFC Wimbledon when he came on as a substitute in the victory at Oxford United just over a year ago.

The midfielder, pictured celebrating his goal against Watford in the Football Manager Cup victory in pre-season, has made two starts and three appearances from the substitute’s bench for the Dons this season.

Sutton are having a good season in the National League, currently in fourth place and just three points behind leaders Dover Athletic.

Having put Wimbledon out of the FA Cup last season, the U’s made their exit from this season’s competition last weekend – going out to Cambridge United.

Everyone at AFC Wimbledon wishes Alfie all the best during his time on loan at Sutton United.
