Toby Sibbick nominated for Trophy award

Double from young Dons defender earns selection for shortlist

3 November 2017

AFC Wimbledon defender Toby Sibbick’s display in the Checkatrade Trophy match against Tottenham Under-21s has earned recognition.

The 18-year-old academy product struck twice in that match and Toby made the shortlist for the Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round.

Toby joins Matt Clarke (Portsmouth), Tom Hopper (Scunthorpe United), Jordan Maguire-Drew (Lincoln City), and Reece Brown (Forest Green Rovers) in the second round of fixtures shortlist.

Following the completion of the second round of fixtures in the group stages of the Checkatrade Trophy, the shortlist for the Player of the Round competition has been narrowed down to five. You can vote for Toby by visiting EFL.com/playeroftheround.

If Toby takes home the trophy, you could have the honour of presenting the award and winning tickets to the Checkatrade Trophy Final.

The judging panel nominated Toby with the following reference: “Toby showed his character by overcoming a difficult night defensively against Tottenham’s Under 21s to score two decisive goals in Wimbledon’s thrilling 4-3 win, including a powerfully struck shot into the bottom far corner.”

The Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round competition gives fans the opportunity to vote for the player they feel shined in the first round of fixtures.

An independent football expert selected the five worthy players that make up the shortlist and now supporters have the chance to vote for the final two via EFL.com. The two players with the most votes will then be considered by a judging panel consisting of representatives from the EFL, before the overall winner is revealed.

Every fan who votes will be entered into a prize draw, with one lucky supporter getting the chance to present the Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round award to the winning player and win tickets to the final of the competition at Wembley in April.

Fans have until 9am on Tuesday 7th November to register their votes for the award. To vote for the player you feel deserves to be the Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round, please visit EFL.com/playeroftheround .
