Dons seal beat-the-deadline swoop for new forward

Jake Jervis joins AFC Wimbledon on loan

31 August 2018

AFC Wimbledon have moved quickly to complete a loan signing before today’s deadline by bringing in Jake Jervis from Luton Town.

The 26-year-old has signed on a season-long loan deal and Neal Ardley said he will go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s away match at Burton Albion.

Jake, who can play up front or on the right flank, is a player well known to Wimbledon supporters from his days playing against the Dons for Plymouth Argyle.

The arrival of Jake means that Wimbledon have a total of four forwards and the manager believes that the squad is now well equipped in this area.

Neal Ardley said: “We’ve played against Jake loads of times and when we looked at what we felt we needed he was one that ticked a lot of the boxes. He’s got great legs in terms of his running on and off the ball and we felt his attributes complemented the strikers we currently have here. James Hanson is great in the air and a good hold-up player, Joe Pigott can do the all-round stuff, and Kwesi has got great movement and is sharp in behind. Jake can also play on the right, so he could give us that quality there as well. Jake has got good pedigree too and his goals record from games started is one in three, even though he has spent time playing on the right. He will go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s game.”

Jake started his career at his hometown club Wolverhampton Wanderers, before joining Birmingham City in 2010. Loan spells followed at several clubs, including Swindon Town and Preston. After impressing during a loan stint at Portsmouth, Jake signed for Pompey on a permanent basis. A move to Plymouth followed in 2014, helping the Green Army to promotion in 2017, a year after he was a part of the Argyle team beaten by the Dons at Wembley. In January, Jake signed for Luton Town, helping the Hatters to promotion into League One.

All at AFC Wimbledon welcome Jake to the club.
