Neal proud of his players after gallant cup exit

It was a proud night for everyone connected with AFC Wimbledon as the Dons exited the Carabao Cup in gallant fashion and Neal Ardley praised the commitment shown by his players.

Despite playing for so long with 10 men, Wimbledon came close to taking Premier League West Ham into a penalty shoot-out. Take a look at our photographs above, which sum up an eventful night at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Following the match, Neal Ardley said: "It was just a shame that the game could not be end to end with us attacking and trying to score. It just became attack versus defence. Sometimes when that happens it is hard to have that real excitement about it, but the boys gave everything. I cannot fault the boys as they did the club proud.

"It only lasts so long, the niceties about it (performances). Against Walsall we played well, but we lost, and it was the same against Sunderland. We've lost again and though we've not done anything wrong as far as our performance levels, I would rather take an average performance and winning 1-0, just to get that momentum going again. I'm sure if we carry on playing the way we have been, it will come.
