Wally Downes is not planning to be too busy in the January transfer market, but he’s already got additions lined up for when the window opens.
Speaking during an update for iFollow, Wally said: “I indicated early on that I hoped these players would play well enough and get points on the board, so that we didn’t have to make wholesale changes. We are not in a financial position to make wholesale changes, but I can’t ask for anything more from the players that are here. If we can get one or two in and they can force their way into the team, then terrific, but these boys are doing a magnificent job at the moment.
“It will not be overly busy. Anything that I want to get done is already done. If there is anyone going out, that will be more of what’s going on, because the stuff that is incoming is done.”
Wally added that he’s concentrating on getting the best from the squad of players currently at the club.
“It’s just about instilling belief in what they are doing for each other and what we are asking them to do,” said Wally. “At the moment, I’ve got no complaints about that at all. Those things we are asking them to do, they are capable of doing. I think it’s important that you don’t ask players to do stuff that they are not good at. We wouldn’t be asking Ronaldo to run back, slide-tackling people. Similarly, I like to put players in positions where they can be successful, and cut down the opportunities of them being failures on the pitch. From that the confidence comes and they can express themselves how they want when they have the ball.”
