Neal nominated for Manager of the Month award

Impressive form in January earns Neal recognition

7 February 2018

AFC Wimbledon's impressive run of form during January has earned Neal Ardley a nomination for the Manager of the Month award.

The EFL judging panel made up a shortlist of four for the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month award with supporting comments on each, as follows:

Neal Ardley (AFC Wimbledon)

The hardest part of football management is reversing a downward spiral. Ardley make it look simple as his side picked up 10 points from four games without conceding a goal. The highlight was a 4-0 win at promotion-chasing Bradford.

Darrell Clarke (Bristol Rovers)

Another manager who trusted his instincts, stayed calm amid increasing frustration and revived his team's fortunes – even after the sale of leading scorer Billy Bodin. Rovers collected 10 points from four unbeaten games.

Steve Lovell (Gillingham)

Gillingham were 23rd when Lovell took charge in October. A maximum 12 points from 12 in January, which included comeback wins against Rochdale and Fleetwood and victories at high-flying Charlton and Scunthorpe, lifted Gills up to 10th.

Tony Mowbray (Blackburn Rovers)

His side's steady improvement all season reached another high with Rovers amassing 11 points from five unbeaten games and moving into the automatic promotion places. Best of all, they stayed true to his passing style.

The winner will be announced at 6.00 am on Friday.
