AFC Wimbledon round off the pre-season schedule this weekend with two matches in less than 24 hours.
Neal Ardley’s men first take on Havant & Waterlooville at Westleigh Park (7.45 pm on Friday night), before another away match against Boreham Wood (3.00 pm on Saturday).
The Dons have won three out of four pre-season games so far and the matches coming up offer a final opportunity to take a look at Wimbledon’s new signings preparing for the season, including Scott Wagstaff (pictured in action against Brighton on Saturday).
Both this weekend’s opponents are currently in the National League with Havant promoted at the end of last season and Boreham Wood having just missed out on going up to the English Football League after a defeat to Tranmere Rovers at Wembley.
There are Wimbledon connections at both clubs too. Of course, Paul Robinson spent three successful seasons here, which included helping the Dons to promotion into League One at Wembley back in 2016. A former Wimbledon Player of the Year, Robbo is already making an impact with the Hawks and he played in the 2-0 friendly victory against Wycombe Wanderers, which was his new club’s fourth win in five pre-season matches.
Luke Garrard, who played a part in AFC Wimbledon’s rise through non league during four years with the club, came tantalisingly close to a notable managerial feat in May at the age of 32 when Boreham Wood were just edged out by Tranmere in the National League play-off final.
