Club launches Women at the Game event for QPR match

Join in the fun at friendly game next month

The Dons Trust will be hosting a Women at the Game event at the pre-season friendly against Championship side QPR on Saturday 14 July (3.00 pm kick-off).

The idea is to encourage women who might not be sure about attending a football match to give it a go and see just how much fun it is! There will be a fantastic team of volunteers to welcome you, ensuring that it's a safe, enjoyable and fun experience on the day. Before kick-off, there will be a pre-match meet-up in a nearby café. Volunteers will then provide help in getting to the ground and through the turnstiles, and make sure that those who have not been before are comfortable with the arrangements once inside the ground.

This event has been organised by the Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) working group, set up by the Dons Trust with a brief not only to find ways to increase diversity within the club, but also to spread the word about just how inclusive our club is. The Dons Trust recently announced more details about supporting Women at the Game on its website. Dons supporter Anna Slade, Organiser of 'Women at the Game' for the Dons Trust D&I group, interviewed Wimbledon's female fans at a game last season and it is hoped that this type of event will take off.

The club will be setting aside a block of seats for this event. Priority will be given to women with special requirements, and thereafter on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are happy to sit or stand without a volunteer escort, perhaps if you are with your own friends, there will be tickets available for other areas in the ground on the day. Tickets are available for this game by visiting the online club shop. The AFC Wimbledon Beer Festival is also being held on the same date, offering extra incentive to make a day of it!

If you would like to participate, or know someone who might, please e-mail Women at the Game to register your interest. One of the team will be in touch to give you more details about arrangements for the day. Visit the Women at the Game website for more general information about the initiative to encourage more women to attend football matches.
