International debut earns ultimate reward for Dons keeper

Nik Tzanev follows in the footsteps of Shane Smeltz by starring for New Zealand

Nik Tzanev marked his New Zealand international debut with a clean sheet last night to help the Kiwis to victory against Chinese Taipei.

Nik, who got his career back on track after leaving Brentford by starring for our development squad last season, helped his country to a 1-0 victory in the Hero International Cup.

After gaining full senior international honours, Wellington-born Nik (pictured second from left in the back row) talked about what it meant to make his debut for New Zealand.

"The whole night was amazing," said Nik. "Just being given a chance to make my debut and to prove myself on the field, I'm buzzing. My Dad messaged me and he is the proudest father now!"

All at AFC Wimbledon congratulate Nik on his achievement, the 21-year-old following in the footsteps of Shane Smeltz, who starred for New Zealand after playing for the Dons during our non league days.
