AFC Wimbledon will once again be represented at Wembley in May after another superb victory for Cleves School in the national Kids Cup.
The Weybridge school earned a place at the national stadium for a second time in three seasons by winning the South Regional tournament hosted by Oxford United on Tuesday and their fantastic achievement earned headlines in the Wimbledon Guardian!
A 3-1 triumph against Fairways Primary School, representing Southend United, secured a tilt at glory for Cleves School, who won the competition at Wembley almost two years ago before AFC Wimbledon’s League 2 play-off final success against Plymouth.
AFC Wimbledon’s School Sports Development Officer Andrew May said: “It’s fantastic that Cleves School, who won our local Kids Cup event in November, attended by 21 schools, have again battled through to win the event yesterday. It’s a great achievement by Cleves School and it means that they will represent AFC Wimbledon in the North v South Final in May before the League One play-off final in May. This is the second time in three years they have represented us and to again reach the Wembley Final is amazing!”
The Kids Cup is a national football initiative organised by the EFL Trust, comprising of a six-a-side competition for Under-11 schoolchildren and culminates in three finals across the Sky Bet EFL Play-Off weekend in May.
All at AFC Wimbledon congratulate Cleves School on another fantastic achievement and we look forward to another Wembley win in May!
