Barry Fuller posts emotional leaving message

Long-serving Dons defender thanks 'amazing' supporters

8 May 2018

Barry Fuller has written an emotional message to everyone connected with AFC Wimbledon after it was earlier announced that he would be leaving the club.

After joining Wimbledon back in the summer of 2013, Barry established himself as a favourite with Dons supporters, earning the Player of the Year accolade in his first full season.

Of course, Barry captained the Dons to promotion with play-off glory at Wembley in 2016 and his message on Twitter received an overwhelming response from supporters tonight.

Barry's message in full is posted below:

"It is with a heavy heart that I write this message. It has been an absolute pleasure playing for an amazing club. I've loved every minute of wearing the shirt. We have had some great memories over my five years. Lifting the trophy at Wembley to win promotion to League One will live with me forever. We had a couple of good FA Cup runs, including taking on Liverpool and Spurs. Most recently, we secured League One football for next season for the club.

"I want to say a big thank-you to all the players, staff, the gaffer, and, of course, our amazing supporters for making my time here so special. I'm proud to have made 236 appearances for the club. It's time for me to look for a new chapter in my journey. All the best for the future AFC Wimbledon."

All at the club wish Barry every success in his future career.
