George Long remained determined to help Wimbledon deliver another season of League One football for the supporters last night, as Neal Ardley's men clinched the required point at Doncaster.

“The fans have got behind us when we’ve needed it and kept with us throughout the season. We wanted to do it for them and get it done at Doncaster, so that they can have a party on Saturday and enjoy the game,” said George in an interview with our iFollow Dons channel.

“I’ve loved it here. It’s been great. The fans took to me and I’ve taken to them and I can’t say enough about the club really.

“The atmosphere was brilliant and all the lads were buzzing afterwards. It was a massive relief to get it done. We can enjoy the rest of the week now and really enjoy Saturday’s game.

"The fans were fantastic throughout and you could see at the end how excited they were to get it done and secure League One status for next season,” said the popular 'keeper after keeping yet another clean sheet this term.

George, who is coming to the end of a season-long loan from Sheffield United, reflected on the collective effort required, particularly in recent weeks, to secure another campaign in the third tier.

“It’s been a long season, but we’ve all enjoyed it. It’s been full of ups and downs, results that have gone our way and some that haven’t. We had a win at Blackburn and a draw away at Wigan, but I think the momentum we’ve carried in the last six games has just been fantastic. It’s been a real team effort. Everyone has been needed – the staff and even the lads who haven’t been playing. They've been pushing everyone in training.”
