Dons heroes roll back the years in charity match

Gavin Bolger's goal was the pick of the bunch in five-star performance

15 October 2018

Familiar faces from AFC Wimbledon’s rise teamed up for charity - and they rediscovered a bit of the old swagger that swept the club through non league!

Jon Main, Tom Davis, and Rob Ursell were among the goals in a 5-1 victory against Old Rutlishians Veterans, but Gavin Bolger stole the show with a volley that was favourably compared to Marco van Basten’s memorable volley from 30 years ago!

The Wimbledon Legends team were assisted by a ‘ringer’ on the day with Simon Clare (PR Director at Coral) drafted in - and he got his name on the scoresheet!

Despite the adverse weather, it was a successful event hosted by Old Ruts with funds raised for Aphasia Community Support Group, which provides invaluable help for stroke survivors.

AFC Wimbledon Club President Dickie Guy was guest of honour on the day with Terry Brown and Dave Anderson (pictured in the photograph above) back in the dug-out to motivate the boys again!
