Shanell Salgado makes it a proud day for AFC Wimbledon Ladies

18 October 2018

There was extra cause for celebration among the squad and staff at AFC Wimbledon Ladies on Sunday with former player Shanell Salgado making a dream debut in the FA Women's Championship.

Shanell's first start for Crystal Palace in the second tier of English women's football ended with a clean sheet against London Bees and selection for the FA Women's Super League team of the week.

It was a proud day for AFC Wimbledon Ladies with the first-team earning a place in the next round of the FA Women's National League Cup. Jess Trimnell struck a dramatic extra-time winner to earn a 3-2 victory at Larkhall Athletic Ladies after earlier goals from Caroline Bisson and Katie Stanley.

On Shanell's progress, AFC Wimbledon Ladies Chairman Dennis Lowndes said: "This is the first ever Women's Super League player that we've helped to develop. We hope that Shanell is the first of many and that one day we have AFC Wimbledon playing at that level."

AFC Wimbledon Ladies are away at Stevenage this Sunday in South East Division One.
