More star names announced for charity match

Interview with Simon Bassey about a charity event coming up

5 October 2018

Three more Dons heroes from the past have been confirmed for the charity match against Old Rutlishians Vets on Sunday 14 October.

Alan Inns (pictured), Rob Ursell ('The Wizard'), and Elliott Godfrey have been added to the list of star names for the game at Old Ruts in nine days' time and our Club President Dickie Guy will be guest of honour on the day. Terry Brown and Dave Anderson will also join us on the day.

Simon Bassey has lined up 13 players so far, but he joked that Jon Main and the rest were not too happy with the tag of 'Veterans'. Therefore, it's the AFC Wimbledon 'Legends' that will be taking to the field on Sunday 14 October! (1.30 pm kick-off). Click on the link below to watch a video interview with Simon Bassey about the event.

Spectators are welcome to come along and join in the fun with just £3 entry on the day and all funds donated to Aphasia Community Support Group, which provides invaluable help for stroke survivors.

The following list of former AFC Wimbledon players is now confirmed:

  • Alan Inns
  • Andy Little
  • Rob Ursell
  • Elliott Godfrey
  • Steve Butler
  • Anthony Finn
  • Ryan Gray
  • Andy Sullivan
  • Keith Ward
  • Michael Haswell
  • Ben Judge
  • Jon Main
  • Simon Bassey

This match is being staged on the same day as the AFC Wimbledon Sunday Fun Day & Minithon, which finishes at 12.30 pm. With the match pencilled in for a 1.30 pm kick-off, there's plenty of time to attend both events!

The full address for Old Ruts is as follows: Old Rutlishians Association, Poplar Road, Merton Park, SW19 3JS.
