Captain Deji Oshilaja felt the side responded well to being told a few “home truths”, as Wimbledon went on to register a first league win at the Cherry Red Records Stadium for this season.
“The manager came down on us very tough after Accrington and told us some home truths,” said Deji following the 2-1 victory over Oxford United. “I thought the boys took it on well. I think they reacted and that’s testament to how hard we worked in the week.”

“I think the boys were disappointed after the Accrington game,” said Deji. “We let in some sloppy goals and we felt we had to get back to how we started the season, because I thought we were playing some great football.
“We didn’t play as well as we have, but there have been games this season where we’ve played very well and we haven’t picked up the points. The main focus for us was to get the three points. Once we got the two-goal lead I think the mentality changed and we sat back a little and they applied more pressure. I thought we dug in deep and we defended well for the majority of the second-half and I thought the boys did that well.
“We’re not looking too far forward. I’m sure we’ll have a game plan on Monday for Bradford. It’s always great to get a home win and now we can build off of that. Now we know we’ve got the win we can use that as motivation to push ourselves on.”
