Neil on last night’s Checkatrade Trophy loss

Reaction from Wimbledon's Assistant Manager

19 September 2018

Neil Cox expressed his disappointment with the lack of cutting edge in front of goal last night and he said the coaching team are working hard to get the team scoring regularly.

Speaking after the 1-0 defeat to Swansea Under-21s, Neil said: "At the end of it we were disappointed with the result. We got caught on the counter-attack, the rest of the game was all in their half. They had been beaten 5-0 in their last game so they came here and sat deep, trying to catch us on the break, and they did it well. Let us give them a lot of credit because they came here and did their job really well.

"We were a little bit disappointed with our final third quality. We are a squad and we're fighting for the same thing. The boys showed a lot of commitment, but we didn't get the breaks. We will be trying now to get ourselves ready for a tough game at Accrington on Saturday."

Neil believes that results will turn soon with a bit more composure from the players in attacking positions.

"The boys are really trying hard and we are trying to keep the confidence up, especially in the final third," added Neil. "A lot of places are up for grabs and people have to improve. That's our job as coaches. We are working so hard on the training ground with them. We had been working on trying to get good quality into the box, but we just let it slip a bit. We just need that little bit of luck in front of goal and things will change for us."
